  • Bird Safe Doylestown - Bird Collision Monitoring

We are excited to announce the launch of the Bird Safe Doylestown and Bird Safe Bucks County programs, modeled after the nationally recognized Bird Safe Philly (www.birdsafephilly.org) program. Thanks to the multiple organizations supporting this initiative, Bucks County Birders, Bird Town PA, Bucks County Audubon, Bird Safe Philly and PA Audubon Council, this multi-year initiative aims to protect our local bird population by monitoring bird collisions and developing strategies to mitigate bird collisions with buildings during their migration periods.

    Bird Safe Doylestown

Starting March 15th, 2025, we are starting a bird collision monitoring program at the below locations in Doylestown Borough to collect dead and rescue injured birds. Dead birds will be safely transported to Academy of Natural Sciences at the Drexel University. The injured birds will be taken to Aark Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Chalfont.

Locations: Bucks County Justice Center and Bucks County Administrative Building

Monitoring Period: March 15th to May 31st for Spring Season and September 15th to November 30th in Fall Season.

Time: 5:30 AM to 8:00 AM (preferably)

Frequency: Daily during the Migration Period (preferably)

Bird Safe Doylestown is made possible by the partnership between Bucks County Birders, Bird Town PA, Bucks County Audubon and PA Audubon Council. The program is supported by Bucks County Commissioners and the County Officials.

We are seeking dedicated volunteers to help monitor the Bucks County Justice Center and the Bucks County Administrative Building from March 15th to May 31st. As a volunteer, your role will involve walking around these buildings a few times between 5:30 AM and 8:00 AM to collect dead and injured birds. Your efforts will be crucial in helping us gather data and provide immediate care to injured birds.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Bucks County Birders at Bucksbirders@gmail.com

Thank you for your support in making Doylestown a safer place for our feathered friends. Together, we can make a difference!

  • Bird Safe Bucks County

We are pleased to announce that we created a community bird collision monitoring project in iNatualist (app or website) - https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/bird-safe-bucks-county-bird-collisions-reporting-project.

Anyone in the community can report and record bird collisions from the Bucks County addresses. It could be from a business address or a home address (if you don’t want to give your home address, you can submit with just street name and city). You first need to become member of the Bird Safe Bucks County iNaturalist project first to post your listing.

A detailed help on how to submit a bird collision is documented here.

Your bird collision report will help the county-wide data on bird collisions and it will immensely help bird collision research work.

Thank you for being a Bird Safe Bucks County contributor!
